Last night, the Russley School choir participated in the North West Festival. They were fantastic! We sang six songs with the massed choir and then two songs by ourselves; Whisper and Junkyard Boogie. We were lucky with the latter song to be accompanied by Curtis, Sam, James, and Dan the drum teacher on a series of pots, pans and other "junk". Here are some pictures of the night's wonderful proceedings!

Here is a great review video on identifying fraction parts. It is put out by the Khan Academy (as seen on 60 Minutes last Sunday). This online educational site was set up by a man called Salman Khan. It all began when he was asked to tutor his cousin on some tricky maths problems online. He made a video using a doodlepad and then uploaded it to YouTube. He made a few more and suddenly people from all over the world began contacting him, telling him how useful his videos were to their learning. He kept making videos and soon millions of people were watching them. Today he has uploaded over 1000 videos, has Bill Gates as his main sponsor, and his videos have had over 162,000,000 views! Check out the video below. Because the Owl and the Pussy Cat was a rather long poem, Room 7 was given 2 weeks to learn it. However today, during our memorisation test, over half the class knew all 3 verses already! So... a new challenge (albeit optional). Here below is the song sung by the dwarves in chapter 1 of the Hobbit about their journey to reclaim their stolen gold from the dragon. This song has many verses so the challenge (for the super memorisers of Room 7) is to see how many verses you can memorise. I look forward to seeing how many you can remember! Good luck (or in Elvish) Quel marth!!!
Room 7 started a new novel today... The Hobbit! It is a spectacular book and is going to be a really exciting read! Room 7 will be doing a lot of work in and around the book over the next few months. To help kick it off we looked at the trailer to The Hobbit movie which is coming out in December. We also looked at a series of photos from the upcoming movie to help us visualise the characters and action as we read through the book. Here is the trailer. The Owl and the Pussycat
The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea In a beautiful pea-green boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five pound note. The Owl looked up to the stars above, And sang to a small guitar, "O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love, What a beautiful Pussy you are, you are, you are, What a beautiful Pussy you are." Pussy said to the Owl "You elegant fowl, How charmingly sweet you sing. O let us be married, too long we have tarried; But what shall we do for a ring?" They sailed away, for a year and a day, To the land where the Bong-tree grows, And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood With a ring at the end of his nose, his nose, his nose, With a ring at the end of his nose. "Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will" So they took it away, and were married next day By the Turkey who lives on the hill. They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon. And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand. They danced by the light of the moon, the moon, the moon, They danced by the light of the moon. Today, due to the rain, winter sport was cancelled. However we did have a Plan B... Zumba!!! We all had a great time! A few of the kids were even heard to say that they hoped it would rain again next Friday so we could Zumba all over again! Here is a video of some of the action. Can you see yourself?
Manicanparty, a new band from Minnesota have just released an amazing song called Rebels in the Light. This is a massive track and the unbelievable Team 3 absolutely crank this out during Team Singing! It is a fantastic song with really great lyrics and the matching music video has a brilliant storyline! Watch it here today! (and remember when it becomes a big hit, that you saw it here first!)
