This week Room 7 was given the biggest challenge yet... to memorise the opening lines of the famous speech by Mark Anthony in William Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar Act 3, Scene 2.
Many thought that it was too hard... we ignored that and already Monica and Ben know it off by heart! Ben in fact performed the piece in assembly on Friday to incredible acclaim! And so it is totally expected that all of Room 7 will know the poem by Monday... because that is how amazingly good Room 7 are! Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus Hath told you Caesar was ambitious: If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Caesar answer'd it. Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest - For Brutus is an honourable man; So are they all, all honourable men - Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral. He was my friend, faithful and just to me: But Brutus says he was ambitious; And Brutus is an honourable man. This week we are going to do something a little bit different. The poem is "All that is Gold Does not Glitter" by J.R.R. Tolkein. It is a poem that comes from his epic series of books The Lord of the Rings, and can be found in BOOK 1, "The Fellowship of the Ring." The poem refers to an ancient prophesy of the reforging of the sword Narsil, for a king who will not be seen at first as a king, who will return to save Middle Earth. The challenge this week has infact 2 parts. Part 1 is to memorise the poem... for Room 7 this will be easy! Part 2 is fantastic! For this, your task is to be able to read the poem in... elvish! You do not have to memorise it, just be able to read it with the correct pronunciation! To help you out I have included the Elvish text and an audio clip. This will be a great challenge for you all! Enjoy Room 7!!!!

This week we have something very different for the poetry challenge. It is a poem written by J.R.R Tolkein called "All that is Gold does not Glitter." It is actually a poem found in his book/movie The Fellowship of the Ring (Lord of the Rings series). It is referring to the prophesy of the reforging of Narsil, the sword of Elendil and the return of the king. It is a very short poem, so to make it more interesting (well it is Room 7 you know!) I present you with a second challenge. Beside memorising the poem, part B is to be able to recite the same poem... in elvish! For this you don't have to memorise it, you can read it but the key will be to read it with correct "elvish pronunciation." To help you out I have included a video with the correct elvish audio! Good luck Room 7!!!
