This term Room 7 has a literacy theme called "This is Not my Writing Book!" Each day, the writing book actually transforms into something else. So far our "writing book" has become, among other things, a pirate treasure map, a teleportation device, a secret identity, and a time travel machine. Today it became a new pet! Room 7 was given an A4 piece of paper and had 15 mins to design, colour, cut out and stick on "animal parts' to the back of our (not) writing books. We then stuck a lead on them and took our book... I mean pet, for a walk in the playground. Then we came back into class and wrote all about our animal's characteristics. Check out the fun below!

Today Room 7 looked at how to write a quality blog comment. We used a "6 point commenting criteria' to assess a series of comments, and then we wrote some quality ones of our own.
Here is the list we used: Six Point Commenting Criteria: 1. Read the previous comments first (so you do not say the same thing someone else has already said). 2. Start your comment with a greeting e.g - Hi Michael. Hello Room 7. 3. Comment about specific details that you agree with, like, observed in their work etc. 4. Use correct punctuation - start your comment with a capital, end with a full stop. 5. Try and spell correctly (use an online dictionary or Microsoft Word spell-checker). 6. Finish with a question if appropriate (this may start a conversation with others). Example: Hi Room 7. It looks like you had great fun on camp. I love the photos of people in your class going down the water slide! Their faces were very funny! Was it cold? Hello Jimmy. What an interesting recount. I really like the way you included lots of interesting information about the animals in your class. Do you take turns feeding them? Hi Mary, I really loved reading about all the great things you did on camp. The story about your tent falling down was really funny! Thanks for sharing! This week Room 7's poetry challenge is to memorise the first 2 verses of William Wordsworth's famous poem "Daffodils". It used to be so well known, that many of our grandparents would have learnt it when they were young. Most of them could still recite it word for word today! Why don't you ask them. You may just be surprised! Here is the poem below:
Here are some more fantastic action shots from our camp last week at Woodend! From the photos you can see we all had such a terrific time! If anyone would like me to send them a particular photo of their child, in the original higher resolution, then feel free to contact me at school and I can email them home.
This is a repost from last year but I just couldn't resist! On camp last week, the Year 5/6 students sang this song and it almost lifted off the roof of the dining hall, and left the camp parents stunned. Most of us have not seen the music video for the song so here it is. Enjoy! We have just come back from a wonderful camp at Woodend. There were so many highlights! What were yours? Here is an Answer Garden where you can type in your highlights (it doesn't matter if someone else has typed it in already - it will just show that it was more of a favourite). Let's see what were the most popular things about this year's camp!
The year 5/6 team have just come back from 3 fantastic days away at Woodend Camp! The kids were terrific, the activities challenging, the food superb, the parent helpers amazing, the sleeping... not bad considering! We will post up lots of photos over the next week so stay tuned! Here is a just small sampling of our time on camp.
Round 2 of the Great Poetry Memorisation Challenge will take place, after morning tea tomorrow. Make sure you brush up on the lines overnight because all children who can recite it off by heart, will go up to Level 2. Don't miss out! If you need another copy of the poem "I Bought a Maserati" then you can find it by clicking here. Today I came across this really amazing 360 degree virtual tour of Egypt. You can see the Great Pyramid of Giza, The Great Sphinx, Cairo City, and many more interesting places! It is almost like being there! If you have always wanted to visit the pyramids (but haven't yet) then this is a great place to start! Learning about the pyramids will also be useful for the Room 7 students heading into "This is not Writing" later on in the week (that is an insider's tip...)
